Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act

In 1965, a group of peaceful demonstrators attempted to march from Selma to Montgomery, AL in support of equal voting rights; but were met with violence and bloodshed – widely known as Bloody Sunday.

In 2013, the United States Supreme Court invalidated the Voting Rights Act and effectively ended the protections against racially discriminatory voting laws.

Today as we commemorate, know your rights and find out if your senator supports the Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure the right to vote for all Americans.  #AKA1908 #AKASLEAD #VotingRightsAct
